3 Reasons Why You Should Dilute Essential Oils

Contrary to the common belief that diluting an essential oil will make it less potent, doing so may actually enhance the experience.

In this article, we give you 3 reasons why you should dilute your essential oils before topical application.

Why Dilute Essential Oils

The 3 Reasons Why

1) Pure unadulterated essential oils are concentrated. For example, around 80 lemons may be used to make a 15 ml essential oil bottle. By diluting it with a pure unadulterated carrier oil, you may reduce the possibility of sensitivity issues.

We recommend to always err on the side of caution and start with more dilution. You can always adjust the ratio once you are comfortable with it.

2) Essential oils are volatile. When you apply it without any carrier oil, you will probably lose a significant part of it due to evaporation. When you dilute with a carrier oil and mix it, the added viscosity may reduce the rate of evaporation. This will probably translate to enhanced absorption.

3) When you dilute your essential oils with a carrier oil, you increase the total volume. This gives you cost savings as you need not use as much essential oils as before. A budget friendly wholesome experience? I’ll take that any day!

The Bottom Line

Essential oils when diluted with a carrier oil may bring an enhanced experience while potentially lowering costs. Hence this should be the basis of usage when applying topically.

Use essential oils responsibly, always use pure unadulterated essential oils / carrier oils and seek medical attention when necessary.
